Thinking Ahead for the Second World Presentation

Here is a question from group 2!

Please respond before Tuesday... (you do not have to post this on your wiki page)

"What does a 'second world' country mean to you?"

Group 2's Definition:
"Countries that are not stuck in third world poverty or arrived in first world modernity, but are both at the same time--not half-way, but both--these are second world countries."

  1. When I think about a "second world" country, I think those countries that are "developing". They aren't necessarily as developed or wealthy as the "1st world" but they aren't undeveloped or as poverty stricken as the "3rd world" countries.

  2. I think of second world countries as countries who are in the process of becoming a first world country. They would have a large majority of people not in poverty, and they would use some of the technology that first world countries have.

  3. A second world country to me is a country that isn't poor where thousands are dying daily because of diseases and stuff, but not as rich as those countries who have just enough money to eliminate the poverty going on. There is more too my answer but this pretty much sums it up

  5. When I think of a second world country I think of developing country. A developed country has all the modern conveniences, while a developing country is in touch with these inventions and is adopting as many of them as they can afford. Second world: countries that are either do not rely on foreign aid but are still not well off or those countries that are developing i.e. China, India, North Korea, Brazil etc

  6. A second world country to me is one lacks the advancement that first world countries have. I also feel like they are developed but not as developed as first world countries are. They are also not in poverty.

  7. A second world country in my opinion is a country that is not as advanced as the United States but more advanced than the poor third world countries of the world. It has just enough resources and is able to grow in power.

  8. A second world country, to me, would be one in which the process of fully developing their country's political and economic power is still in the works. These countries are in the process of emerging.

  9. I think that a second world country is between first and third world countries developmental status'. Developed, but not fully. Still lacking in some areas. Russia would maybe be an example of a second world country.

  10. To me the i think the "second world" countries may be countries that do not live in severe poverty but is lacking in what can be technology and is not THAT well fully developed. It may also meand that the deaths may be becasue of diseases and such but not as of poverty and being poor.

  11. I believe a second world country is not far off from being a first world country just needs certain military, technological, political, economical, and self-dependence that factor in to make it a first world country. It also has the ability to go in the other direction towards being a third world country which has an increase in poverty, corruption, lack of government, etc. That’s why it remains in between till something either moves it in a forward direction or ends up making it reverse into a third world country. The world is always unpredictable.

  12. A second world country lacks the technology or advancement as a first world country but isn't as poor as a third world country. Poverty might not be as high as in a third world country but it isn't exactly a first world country either; almost as if they're in between the two. Or like my other classmates have already stated a developing country.

  13. A second world country is where a country is developing (still in the beginging stages of) technology, government, and/or financial power. These counties although not as solidified as other powers of the world are not necessarly poor or without resources but perhaps haven't learned how to harness them or branch out with other powers in the world.

  14. Second world country to me is a country that is not fully developed as a 1st world, but isn't poor to the extent of a third world country. Basically its stuck in the middle. But at least the second world country is able to provide help for there people. Eventually I think these countries will be able to advance and maybe even make it to a first world country.

  15. My definition of a second world country would be a country that is not as rich/wealthy as a first world but not as poor as a third world country in regards to money, technology, health care, political stability and over well being of its citizens.

  19. A second world country is a country that is still developing. It still has a lot of work to do in order to catch up to first world countries, but it is not as undeveloped as third world countries.
